Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ Contest Official Rules
Summary of Contest: As the largest group of health care professionals, nurses are critical to America’s healthcare system. Nurses protect, promote, and optimize the health of their patients by preventing illness and injury, facilitating healing, and alleviating suffering. Nurses are role models, educators, and advocates. The well-being of nurses is fundamental to the health of our nation. The Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ Grand Challenge, is a social movement designed to transform the health of the nation by improving the health of the nation's 3.6 million registered nurses.
To help kick off this challenge, the American Nurses Association (“ANA”) is excited to announce a contest asking nurses to share their resolutions for becoming healthier in 2017. Share your resolution pertaining to one of the Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation domains for a chance to win 1 of 5 $50 Amazon gift cards.

Participants can get an additional entry by joining the Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation Facebook group.
Participants can also share a short video about their resolution by submitting a link in the form to the video on YouTube, Vimeo or Instagram (must be viewable by public, if set to private or deleted during the contest time period the video will not be eligible to win) for a chance to win a $250 Amazon gift card (one will be awarded for a video in each of the Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation domains) as well as the opportunity to be featured in a web series on nurses getting healthier.
The contest is sponsored by ANA.
Contest period: The Contest begins at 9am, ET on January 9, 2017. Entries must be received by midnight, February 28, 2017.
The videos with the most likes by February 28, 2017 will be reviewed by an ANA judging panel. Winners will be announced on Monday, March 6, 2017.
Eligibility: The Contest is open to three (3) classes of participants, as follows:
- Class 1: All registered nurses and students enrolled in a U.S. School of Nursing program who are legal residents of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or the other U.S. territories. You must be at least 18 years of age or older (19 years of age in AL/NE) at the time of entry.
- Class 2: Employees of Constituent and State Nurses Association of ANA (“C/SNA”, as defined in Article II, Section 1.a, of the current ANA Bylaws) who are neither registered nurses nor students enrolled in a U.S. School of Nursing program.
- Class3: Employees of the ANA Enterprise (American Nurses Association, American Nurses Foundation, and American Nurses Credentialing Center), regardless of whether such employees are registered nurses or students enrolled in a U.S. School of Nursing program. Employees of the ANA Enterprise are not eligible to participate as Class 1 or Class 2 participants. Officers, contractors, and/or agents of the ANA Enterprise and/or of any C/SNA are not eligible to participate in any class.
To enter: To enter go to http://www.healthynursehealthynation.org/en/contest/video-contest/ and follow the instructions to submit your resolution. If you are also including a video, you must upload the video to YouTube, Instagram or Vimeo first and then submit the URL in the resolution form. For information and support in uploading videos, please see the YouTube Help Center, Vimeo Help Center or Instagram Help Center. The date and time of the form submission on the site constitutes the official time of your Entry for purposes of the contest.
Participants submitting a video must create an original video lasting no longer than one (1) minute that illustrates what being a healthy nurse means to them, as well as their resolution and motivation for that resolution.
Both individual and group submissions are allowed. The group must designate a primary contact person.
Only one entry per person or per group is allowed for each resolution Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation domain.
Submissions, including videos, must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful, defamatory, slanderous or libelous. Submissions, including videos, must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual.
ANA will not be responsible for lost, incomplete, misdirected, illegible, late, malfunctioning entries, or for failed computer transmissions or technical failures.
By entering the Contest, each participant fully and unconditionally agrees to and accepts these Official Rules and the decisions of ANA, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. No exceptions or substitutes will be made.
Judging: For entries with video submissions, the 20 videos with the most likes will be reviewed by a panel of judges who will then select five (5) winners, one for each resolution area. A panel of judges consisting of ANA staff will select the winning videos based on the following criteria.
- Extent to which message is consistent with theme of contest
- Clarity of message for a lay audience
- Creativity in how the story is told
- Creativity of visual presentation
The decisions of the Contest Judges will be final and binding. ANA reserve the right to disqualify any entry at any time which, in the program’s opinion, endangers the safety or well being of any person or fails to comply with the Official Rules.
Winners will be announced by ANA electronically on March 6, 2017.
Prize: One set of prizes will be awarded to Class 1 and 2 participants and another set of prizes will be awarded to Class 3 participants, as follows:
- Prizes for Class 1 and 2 participants: Five (5) resolution form submitters will be chosen at random to each win a $50 Amazon gift card. Five video winners (one for each Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation domain) will each receive a $250 Amazon gift card as well as the opportunity to be featured in a web series on nurses getting healthier.
- Prizes for Class 3 participants: One (1) video winners (one for each Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation domain) will receive a $250 Amazon gift card as well as the opportunity to be featured in a web series on nurses getting healthier.
- Limit for all classes: One (1) prize per entrant.
Copyright requirements: By entering the Contest, Entrant acknowledges and represents to ANA (1) that all elements of his/her Entry, including all video, visual, graphic and design elements, including concepts and characters, and all musical elements, including lyrics, compositions and performances, are his/her original creation and that he/she owns all copyright, trademark, trade name and other intellectual property rights to them and that the use of them in the Entry does not violate the laws of any country, state, municipality or any common law rights, including but not limited to Title 17 of the United States Code, and Section 106 of the 1976 Copyright Act, as amended, and that the use of them in the Entry has not infringed upon such rights of any third party; and/or (2) that he/she has obtained all necessary licenses or permissions from all appropriate third parties required for the production and submission of the Entry in the Contest as herein described; (3) that the posting of his/her Entry on the YouTube Site, the ANA Site and the display of it on the YouTube Site or the ANA Site will not violate the intellectual property rights or rights of publicity or rights of privacy of any third parties or otherwise breach any provision of any applicable law or regulation; (4) that his/her Entry and the posting of it on the YouTube Site complies fully and completely with all of the terms of the YouTube Site, in their entirety; (5) that ANA has his/her irrevocable permission for the posting of his/her name, use of his/her name and reference to his/her Video on the ANA Website, and use and posting of his/her image, likeness and speech provided by him/her to ANA in any manner in connection with the Contest without any compensation or limitation in perpetuity, regardless of whether his/her Entry is a winning Entry; and (6) that he/she has obtained irrevocable full and informed consent of any third party whose image, likeness and speech appears in his/her Entry.
Rights granted to ANA: By entering the Contest, you agree and irrevocably grant to ANA and their affiliates and their respective assigns, agents and licensees (collectively, the “ANA Parties”), the unconditional, royalty-free right and license to reproduce, encode, store, copy, transmit, publish, post, broadcast, display, publicly perform, adapt, edit, exhibit, create derivative works and otherwise use or reuse your Video Submission, throughout the world, in perpetuity, in any media, including, without limitation, the Internet.
Except where prohibited, by entering the Contest you also irrevocably agree that the ANA Parties may use your name, likeness, voice, photograph and any statements regarding your video submission and participation in the Contest (collectively, “Your Likeness”) throughout the world, in perpetuity, in any media, without limitation or compensation to you. By entering the Contest, you permanently waive all intellectual property rights, privacy/publicity rights and other legal or moral rights that might preclude the ANA Parties’ use of your video submission and Your Likeness, and you agree not to sue or assert any claim against the ANA Parties (or any of them) relating to their use of your video submission or Your Likeness.
General Conditions/Release: By entering the Contest, participants (a) release the ANA Parties from any and all liability for any claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by their participation, including the unauthorized or illegal access to personally identifiable or sensitive information or the acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of a prize; and (b) acknowledge that said parties have neither made nor are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation, or guarantee, expressed or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the prizes including, but not limited to, their quality or availability, or suitability. The ANA Parties will not be responsible for typographical, printing, or other inadvertent errors in these Official Rules or other materials or announcements relating to the Contest, or for incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information, or for any human or other error, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed data or voice transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software, inability to access any on-line service or Website, or to complete a telephone call or facsimile transaction, or any other error or malfunction, or late, lost or misdirected mail, or any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation in this Contest. ANA reserve the right to disqualify anyone found to be tampering with or otherwise abusing any aspect of the Contest as determined by them in their sole discretion. ANA also reserve the right in their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest if tampering, viruses, bugs or other causes beyond their reasonable control corrupt the administration, security, fairness or proper operation of the Contest. Should the Contest be terminated prior to the stated end date, ANA reserve the right to choose winners from among the video submissions entered prior to the early termination date.
Each entrant shall indemnify, defend and hold ANA harmless from any third party claims arising from or related to the entrant’s participation in the Contest or the entrant’s possible violation of a third party’s trademark, copyright, or other legally protected interest in any way in your video.
All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply, void where prohibited.
Disputes: By entering the Contest participants agree that (a) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of, or connected with, the Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate court located in the District of Columbia; (b) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Contest, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and © under no circumstances will participants be permitted to obtain for, and each participant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of the Official Rules, participants’ rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of ANA in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the District of Columbia, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the District of Columbia or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other the District of Columbia.
